We all want to change: We want to procrastinate less, be more confident, stop buying $10 lattes, turn our bodies into magical eye traps that make people love us, etc.
Many of us have tried self-help books, motivational quotes, TED talks, or even our bestie’s advice.
Maybe that made us feel amazing for a day or two. Maybe we even told our friends how simple it is to change. But then we find ourselves once again watching a movie while eating a pint of ice cream and comparing ourselves to people’s highlight reels on Instagram (or whatever your coping mechanisms are).
Put down the self-help book and back away slowly
Reading self-improvement books or watching TED Talks can trick our brains into thinking we’ve already accomplished something. They manage to soothe our guilt for a brief moment, but our behavior hasn’t really changed.
Despite hearing the same old tips and tricks, we repeat the same old patterns.
Once we realize this, we can turn into cynics: “People don’t change!”. Or defeatists: “Why would I even try anymore?!”. We’ve been to the moon - but still can’t keep ourselves from procrastinating, binge-eating, or worrying…
To stop procrastinating, get on your phone
Luckily, apps like Ahead and Headspace are changing that! They finally help us rewire our brains. They actually help us think and behave differently.
Our smartphones are already woven into our lives, why not use them to weave new habits in there too? Sure, phones did teach us all sorts of bad behaviors. But they deserve a second chance, just like you!
Ahead, for example, doesn’t allow you to pat yourself on the shoulder for just passively consuming content. It makes you take real action to rewire your brain.
It doesn’t just tell you what “helped most people,” it actually understands what exact strategies you need.
In fact, it even helps you notice when you’re getting emotional: “Suddenly talking faster? Frowning? Time to use my strategies!”
Apps are around when it really matters, whenever difficult emotions bubble up. Because who goes anywhere without their phone nowadays?
Apps make personal growth fun, so that we quit finding excuses and finally reach success!
What do you want to change about yourself? It’s not as hard as you think…
Emotions often get the best of us: They make us worry, argue, procrastinate…
But we’re not at their mercy: We can learn to notice our triggers, see things in a new light, and use feelings to our advantage.
Join Ahead and actually rewire your brain. No more “in one ear, out the other.” Your future self says thanks!
